The History of Hypnosis

If you take a look at the history of Hypnosis, you will find that Franz Anton Mesmer is considered to be the father of modern day hypnosis. He seemed to believe that there was some type of fluid that was quasi-magnetic in the air that all of us breathe, and that the nerves in the body absorb this fluid. He would try to treat his patients in such a way to make sure that he unblocked the circulation of this fluid in the body, and when the circulation of the liquid was corrected, the disease would be cured.

When it comes to the history of Hypnosis, even back in the 1800's, there were many physicians that were practicing it, especially across Europe . It was used as an analgesic as well as an anesthetic before there were so many drugs available. Over time it faded out for a time, especially after Queen Victoria went with the administration of Chloroform when she had her third baby. Also, Freud was not a big fan of hypnosis either, and this also lead to the decrease in popularity of the time.

Hypnotic therapy is some thing that can be effectively used to control the mind of the person undergoing the hypnotic therapy. Hypnosis mind control techniques are most commonly used to correct the behavioral problem of individuals. It is easy to eradicate the negative thoughts from a person’s mind that lead to behavioral problems by subjecting him to hypnotic therapy. To make it a success the subject or the person undergoing the hypnotic therapy should be extremely cooperative to the person performing the hypnotic therapy or the hypnotist.

Hypnosis mind control is used for both medical and entertainment purpose. It has been proved that hypnosis mind control techniques can bring positive results if used with the medical treatment in patients suffering from alcohol and smoking addiction. It can be used positively to overcome the temptation to go back to the habits by injecting the feeling of aversion towards the bad habit that he has overcome wit the help of medicine.

Not only for quitting the habits like smoking drinking or overeating but also it can be effectively used to control the pain that one feels while he suffers illness similar to cancer and burn wounds. The same techniques are proved to be very effective to reduce the pain that a woman suffers during child birth.

It is the mind control that one can achieve through hypnosis that helps a person to feel less pain than the pain that he is actually suffering. A study conducted by the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis reveals that hypnotic therapy is capable of reducing almost 75% of the pain of the subjects who were cooperating with their study.

Hypnotic therapy as well as self hypnosis is now accepted as an effective tool to put mind under control for those who are not capable of doing so without the help of an external aid. Self Hypnosis- The Benefits

Filed Under (Hypnotism General, Self Hypnosis) by Dane on 19-12-2007

Hypnotic therapy some times acts as a powerful tool to correct the behavioural problems of people. This technique of communicating positive suggestions into the minds of individuals in a semi conscious state of mind of the person undergoing hypnotic therapy can be effectively used to correct the behavioural problem of children. Generally hypnotherapy is used to improve the confidence level of individuals by developing self esteem in them.

In the normal course hypnotic therapy requires a hypnotist and a subject. A person who performs hypnotic therapy is known as the hypnotist and the other person who undergoes the hypnotic therapy is called the subject.

But in all cases the hypnotist need not be a different person. A properly trained person can perform hypnotic therapy by making himself subject to the hypnotic therapy. In such cases the hypnotist and the subject will be one and the same person. This type of hypnotic therapy is known as self hypnosis.

To perform self hypnosis you should be able to focus totally in your inner self. You should also be in a position to control and give commands to your own mind as if you are a third person. Though this may sound strange, it is a fact that any one ready to learn some simple techniques that help him to control his mind can perform self hypnosis for the purpose of improving the quality of his life through enhancing his self confidence.

The technique of manifestation that believes in the law of attraction also is based on the techniques of self hypnosis. Both adopt the same techniques to teach a person how to control his mind. Meditation acts as the basic technique of both self hypnosis and manifestation.

The process of self hypnosis is based on concentrating the mind of the person performing self hypnosis to a single point as if he is practising meditation. It requires peace of mind and a place where no one would come to disturb you.

It is not safe and practical to try to learn the steps of self hypnosis with out an external aid. Once you have learned the techniques of hypnosis you will be able to utilise it for improving your self esteem, improving your performances, reduce stress, improving financial problems and to over come problems like fear and anxiety. It can also help a person to withdraw from alcohol and drug addiction.

Learning hypnosis

Filed Under (Hypnotism General, Learn Hypnosis) by Dane on 13-12-2007

Learning hypnosis is not an easy task. It is a task for which you have to spend all your time. If you want to learn how to become a hypnotist, then some would argue that learning hypnosis would be done best if you were taught by a professional hypnotist, but you will find that hypnotists in the business, will be very secretive about there work and not want to share there skills, probably because they make good money from there simple techniques and also they would like to keep there ring of hypnotists small and tight so competition is kept low.

Learning Hypnosis has been very popular since a period of time. Hypnosis has been around for many years and can be used for many different things from 'quitting Smoking' to 'Sleep therapy' to 'Weight Loss'. There are many different routes to hypnotizing someone. There are things you need to consider like what sort of person you're going to be hypnotizing and the environment around where you decide to hypnotize someone. Before you begin to hypnotize someone you will need some basic equipment to help create a relaxed environment. Without your subject being totally relaxed the methods of hypnosis will not work well, if at all. Hypnotism works well when you use soft relaxing music, which can be something like waves breaking on a beach or something along those lines. You will need to learn how to use a soft soothing voice when talking to your subject.

There are now courses available to the public, much to the dismay of the professional hypnotist. They are very good and informative, usually in the form of CD packs or mp3 downloads to listen to at your own pace. Learning hypnosis is now an easy step. Because now hypnosis can be learned through Internet and CD packs.

The stereotypical hypnotist will use a pendulum to help there subject fall under into a state of hypnosis, but to just speak softly and using gentle music can have just as good affect at making someone fall into a day-dream state. According to research hypnosis is just a sate of day-dreaming where the person is left open to suggestion.

As your learning about hypnotism you will be teaching yourself and learning things about yourself. You will need to learn how to combine relaxing music, using your voice softly and creating a calm and pleasant atmosphere. You'll learn about questions that you have to ask the person, about why they want the treatment and how it may help them. You need to learn how to find out about the person your going to hypnotize, because some narrow minded people with large ego's tend to be very difficult to hypnotize. It is still in debate about weather or not people can be hypnotized against there will. Shy timid people will usually be very easy to hypnotize.

Using a Hypnotism Spiral for Hypnotism and Other Classic Hypnotism Misconceptions

Filed Under (Hypnosis, Hypnotism General) by Dane on 21-11-2007

Have you ever watched one of those classic horror movies where an evil hypnotist uses a hypnotism spiral to hypnotize their victim? Imagine the scene: as the victim is tied to a chair, the hypnotist holds the hypnotism spiral or pendulum in front of their face and chants “You are getting very sleepy…..” Perhaps you have never seen such a movie, but are aware of this classic stereotype.

Whatever the case, it is important to know that hypnotism is not like this at all. Hypnotism is rarely used as a part of an evil plot—in fact, it is normally done for self-improvement or relaxation reasons. Also, the hypnotism spiral is not an essential part of the process, believe it or not. In fact, many professional hypnotists don’t even use a hypnotism spiral or a pendulum. Let’s proceed to debunk some of the classic hypnotism stereotypes.

Motives for Hypnotism

Despite what you see in the movies, it is rare that hypnotism is used for evil or to harm someone. In fact, most of the time the intent behind hypnotism is to improve destructive behaviors or to be used as a part of a healing process. For example, hypnotism is commonly used to prevent someone from feeling pain, like after a surgery. Many people use hypnotism to help them to drop a bad habit, such as smoking, drinking, or overeating. Why else would somebody use hypnotism? Well, many people use hypnotism simply as a way to relax!

The Hypnotism Spiral and the Pendulum

When somebody mentions hypnotism, most people automatically picture the hypnotism spiral. Oftentimes it is a constantly moving red and white spiral that appears in most classic horror films involving hypnotism. This is not off base—many hypnotists do use a hypnotism spiral to hypnotize their clients. Also, many hypnotism spirals can be found online for self-hypnotism purposes.

However, what most people don’t know is that the hypnotism spiral is not an essential part of hypnotism—in fact, it is not even necessary! Why use devices such as a hypnotism spiral or a pendulum then? Well, an important part of hypnotism is the focus on one object that will allow one’s brain to enter the alpha or beta state of mind. The hypnotism spiral and the pendulum are two objects commonly used for these purposes; however, many hypnotists use other items as well.
